Based on extensive research, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration recently found there are no significant safety concerns with using products like Nicorette and NicoDerm CQ while using other nicotine-containing products, such as cigarettes. There are also no significant safety risks associated with the use of NRT products for longer than the labeled 12 weeks of use.
Of course, the purpose of using Nicorette or NicoDerm CQ remains to help you quit smoking. The new announcement provides some options for you to personalize your quit attempt. If you feel you need to use these products for a longer period to keep from smoking, talk to your health care provider.
